Texas lawmaker cheers on Texas Tech as they head to the Final Four

WASHINGTON (GrayDC) After two weekends of tournament play, Texas Tech is one of four teams left standing.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders will face off against the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday night, April 6.

Rep. Mike Conaway is pulling hard for the Red Raiders, especially since his wife is an alumna of the Lubbock university.

"They played great defense, and I’m a former football player so defense was a big deal to me," he said.

Texas Tech and Michigan State are joined by Virginia and Auburn for the games set this weekend.

Conaway said he anticipates students are very excited on campus this week ahead of the games.

“Success at a university on any program, whether it’s academics or in this instance, athletics, helps the university, helps its profile," he explained.

It is Texas Tech coach Chris Beard’s first time in the Final Four. It is the first time Texas Tech made a berth into the Final Four, according to ESPN.
