Small Business Saturday could have lasting impact for independent businesses

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) -- Nearly half of all people who shop visit an independent business on Small Business Saturday are stopping by for the first time.

A research economist says the potential for those businesses to find new repeat customers may be the biggest benefit.

Devin O'Connor, Deputy Director of Economic Research at the Committee for Economic Development, said, “The effect of once you get a customer in your door you have a chance to make a repeat customer or get someone used to purchasing from you or loyal to purchasing from you.”

A survey by American Express and the National Federation of Independent Business shows about 67 cents of each dollar spent at your local small business goes back into the pocket of your community.
