WASHINGTON (Gray DC) -- On May 30, President Donald Trump said he would impose a 5 percent tariff on all Mexican imports unless the Mexican government took measures to stop illegal immigration into the U.S. In a joint declaration released Friday, the U.S. committed to the expansion of its Migrant Protection Protocols, including the return of those seeking asylum to Mexico until their claims are approved.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) says he is confident the U.S. will reach an official agreement with Mexico to avoid tariffs and decrease illegal immigration, the results of which should be seen in the upcoming weeks.
