Rep. Michael Guest discusses uptick in positive COVID-19 cases in Mississippi
Coronavirus cases are rising across the country, including in the state of Mississippi. Rep. Michael Guest (R-MS) says he expected with the reopening of the economy that there would be more exposure to the virus and an increase in positive cases.
Guest says he is focused on capacity available in intensive care units and ventilator availability, which he says remain steady. Guest does not support a statewide mask mandate, though he says encouraging mask-wearing or mandating masks in an area with a spike is something he is open to. Guest says enforcement of a mask mandate would be difficult, and thinks that using police resources to help in that mandate would be a waste.
Guest is also looking at the process for opening up schools in the next few months. He says they have multiple approaches prepared so they can be ready for whatever virus climate coincides with the start of the year.
