WASHINGTON (GrayDC) Although Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ) does not have the full details on the Friday agreement between the U.S. and Mexico, she said she would like to see a deal that builds "a strong partnership".

"They’re our biggest trading partner in the Southwest and we want a good relationship with them," said Kirkpatrick.

Among the provisions of the deal, Mexico will send 6,000 of their National Guardsmen to their southern border to an area about 150 miles across.

Tariffs are not apparently on the table for now, but the Congresswoman said she is watching the situation closely.

She said tariffs would be detrimental to Arizonans.

"It’s gonna hurt us in a big way," Kirkpatrick said, if President Trump implements the tariffs.

Looking forward, Kirkpatrick said she is hoping to see immigration reform in Congress.

“It’s one of the reasons why I ran for Congress in the first place," the Arizona Congresswoman said.
