WASHINGTON (Gray DC) -- Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) is looking ahead to 2020 after being named chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. She takes over the post from Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and gives partial credit for getting the job to her battleground home state.

In her new role, Cortez Masto is expected to eye key races and devote resources to those campaigns as her party attempts to take control of the U.S. Senate. She says the electoral map appears to be in Democrats' favor, with 22 Republicans up for reelection in 2020 and just 12 Democrats.
