Moving up the ladder: Senator John Barrasso becomes the number three Republican in the Senate

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) -- Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) is moving up the ranks on Capitol Hill. Barrasso will serve as the Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference after elections took place on Wednesday.

He previously served as Chair of the Republican Policy Committee. With Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) leaving his post as majority whip due to term limits, changes are occurring up and down the pecking order. Barrasso is the highest-ranking Wyoming lawmaker in Washington, and now number three among all Republican Senators. He says this gives him more power to promote the needs of Wyomingites.

“I think it means more for Wyoming. I can continue to bring forth Wyoming’s agenda, the issues that affect our jobs and our economy, things that people care about in Wyoming,” said Barrasso. “But it’s also an opportunity to continue to serve in the Senate with the other members of the Senate.”

Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) will fill Barrasso’s current post. The new-look leadership team will assume their roles when the new Congress begins in January.
