WASHINGTON (Gray DC) -- Rep. David Kustoff (R-TN) introduced the Restoring the Armed Career Criminal Act earlier this week saying he is hoping to protect his district from serious repeat criminal offenders.

His legislation has a companion effort from Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) in the Senate. The lawmakers say they want to give federal prosecutors more tools to keep "serious felony" offenders in jail for their entire sentences.

Kustoff says his legislation would only apply to a felon who possesses a firearm and has been previously convicted three times of serious felonies.
