Inslee joins 2020 race with "green" platform

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) -- Washington’s governor, Jay Inslee, announced he is running for the Democratic nomination to become president in a video Friday morning.

Inslee, 68, came right out with a platform of fighting climate change. He says, if elected, he will make it the nation’s number-one priority.

With an emphasis on climate change in recent weeks, including the roll out of a “Green New Deal” on Capitol Hill, the progressive fringes of the party are keeping an eye on how far politicians and candidates are willing to go to confront the issue.

The Washington governor focused his entire announcement video, titled “Our Moment,” on this priority. You can watch it below.

Inslee is the first governor to join a long list of Democratic candidates who have already announced, including mayors, senators, House members, and business leaders. The list is expected to continue to grow.
