The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it’s prepared for Tropical Storm Colin. The agency is monitoring the storm’s path and is ready to respond if Florida officials reach out for help.
“Listen and take direction from state and local officials. Any severe weather is a threat,” said FEMA Director of Public Affairs Rafael Lemaitre.
Lemaitre says the most important thing to do is make sure you are prepared for the storm, “Survivors and citizens themselves are the first responders after a storm. We know that after something happens like a tornado often the people who are first on the site are neighbors helping neighbors. We cannot stress enough that this is a shared responsibility between government and residents themselves which is why we keep encouraging folks to do everything now to prepare including to download the FEMA app,” said Lemaitre.
The phone app is called FEMA and can be used on an iPhone or Android. The agency says the safety and preparedness information on the app can save your life. Many of the functions even work without a cell phone signal.
