WASHINGTON (GrayDC) With news of Sen. Bennet's prostate cancer diagnosis, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) tweeted he and his family will be praying for his Colorado counterpart.
Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO), 54-years-old, announced Wednesday he has prostate cancer and will be getting surgery to remove his prostate gland in a couple weeks during the congressional spring recess.
“It is a shock to us all when we hear about a friend and colleague who had a diagnosis like this. But Sen. Bennet is strong. He’s going to continue to be a fighter for Colorado and this country,” said Sen. Gardner in reaction to the news.
"While hearing news like this is never easy, I am fortunate it was detected early, and as a result, my prognosis is good," Bennet said in a statement.
Gardner said the news is a lesson to everyone to get checkups to catch medical concerns early.
"Don't skip them, go through them, have them," said Gardner.
The Senator said he is confident Bennet will "get through this" because of the early detection.
