Former Wyoming Senator Alan Simpson receives highest civilian honor
Simpson is one of 17 who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom Thursday
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Former Wyoming Senator Alan Simpson got some important hardware Thursday.
President Biden selected his former colleague for the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
During his tenure, Simpson - a Republican- was known as a champion for marriage equality, responsible governance and finance reform.
Simpson’s son Colin describes his dad as a man on conviction.
“One of the reasons he is well-loved is because of his accepting attitude of a variety of things,” said Colin, “You know, maybe he was ahead of his time rather than just breaking ranks.”
Colin says his father’s empathy is instilled in his family.
“He has an open, accepting family and accepting people who were different. And that’s what we were always taught and he used to hope he has lived that his entire life. "
