WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.), incoming White House Senior Advisor and Director of the Office of Public Engagement, tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday, according to the Biden transition team.

In a statement, the transition team noted Richmond had not been in what the CDC defines as “close contact” with any Biden staff, including the president-elect himself. President-elect Biden underwent testing Thursday and the team says COVID-19 was not detected.

Team Biden says Richmond will quarantine for 14 days and must test negative two times in that period before returning to in-person work on the transition or in Congress. A spokesperson in Richmond’s congressional office would not grant an immediate request for an interview with Richmond, but said, “We are monitoring his health at this time.”
